On November 14, 2012, the National Black Deaf Advocates and Consumer Groups responded to a FCC VRS Public Notice by filing comments with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The FCC issued a Public Notice on October 15, 2012 seeking feedback on several proposals that can change Video Relay Services (VRS) and wants to know what your ideas are to improve this vital service in the future.
The FCC asks three major questions:
1. Should the FCC require the use of a single software program or app for all VRS calls through any certified provider?
2. Should the FCC require the use of a central database for telephone numbers and other information about us?
3. Should the FCC adopt a proposal that reduces reimbursement rates for VRS providers?
NBDA and Consumer Groups responded to these questions and requested the FCC to consider the points discussed herein and in their initial Comments when considering ways to improve the structure and efficiency of the VRS program. Read entire comments online (pdf).
If you have ideas on how to improve VRS, the FCC needs to hear from you. You are encouraged you to submit your own comments to the FCC, or file a statement supporting the comments provided by the Consumer Groups comments or a different group.
