The Dr. Glenn B. Anderson Scholarship Program is proud to announce its 2019 scholarship winners. Scholarship applicants were comprised of Deaf students attending colleges or universities as of Spring of 2019 and enrolled in a variety of academic programs. The three winners representing were selected by scholarship committee members Chris Johnson (chairperson), Evon Black, and Dr. Glenn Anderson. We extend our congratulations to the following winners:

 Kiara Young

Kiara Young (Arkansas), expected to graduate in 2021, is currently enrolled at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. The first impression of her is her passion to become an American Sign Language (ASL) teacher after she earns her degree. According to Dr. Mary Thurman, Linguistics Professor at Gallaudet, “not only is she (Kiara) a wonderful person, reliable and dedicated to her work, she is someone I believe has a lot to contribute to the community and to her future career.”

 Eliyas Assefa

Eliyas Assefa (Virginia), expected to graduate in 2022, is currently enrolled at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. According to Dr. Kirsten Harmon, English Professor at Gallaudet University, “Mr. Assefa is a campus leader. He has served in the Student Body Government at Gallaudet University, volunteered with the D.C. chapter of National Black Deaf Advocates, interned with Camp Invention, and worked with the Academic Affairs Director at Gallaudet.” Eliyas’ goal after receiving a degree in Information Technology is to become a software developer.

 Jaylen Chaney

Jaylen Chaney (Michigan), expected to graduate in 2020, is currently enrolled at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. He is not only a leader as a student-athlete at Gallaudet but an aspiring leader in Flint, Michigan as well. With the completion of his degree in Business Administration and a minor in Accounting, he aims to pursue a career as a financial analyst. He also aspires for a political career with the goal to eventually become a state Governor. According to Curtis Pride, Gallaudet University’s Head Baseball Coach, “He (Jaylen) is a dedicated and knowledgeable student and an all-around great person.”
