Director of Youth Empowerment Summit
Purpose of Position
The Director of Youth Empowerment Summit (YES!) will be responsible for working at the national level of NBDA in responsible for the preparation of the 2015 Youth Empowerment Summit, which will be held in conjunction with the NBDA Conference. The Director of YES! reports to the Executive Director of Youth Programming, and coordinates with the NBDA Conference Chair. The position will serve a term beginning with the November 1, 2013 and ending November 1, 2015 to ensure all development and final budget expenditure reports are turned in to the Executive Director.
Job Description
• Coordinate with Executive Director to contact high schools, community agencies/organizations, and NBDA chapters for recruitment efforts
• Hire Peer Directors and Peer Advisors with approval by Executive Director
• Develop Code of Conduct and Ethical Responsibilities for Peer Directors/Advisors, along with one-week schedule, activities, field trips, workshops, and leadership trainings for YES! Attendees
• Schedule transportation services for YES! Attendees (airport, hotel, field trips, etc.)
• Coordinate with NBDA Conference Chairperson to plan YES! activities in conjunction with the NBDA conference
• Responsible for recruiting workshop presenters, panelists, and guest speakers specifically for YES! with approval by the Executive Director
• Work closely with Executive Director to coordinate budget, sponsors, fundraising, and contracts
• Collaborate with the Director of Communications to deliver timely and effective updates on YES! (via website updates, social media, flyers, newsletters, vlogs, email etc.) to diverse audiences
• Ensure Peer Directors and Peer Advisors maintain responsibility for youth in terms of checking and counting attendance regularly on all activities including field trips and lodging
• Work with Executive Director after the Conference to submit all financial/budget reports by September 15, 2015
Qualifications
High School Diploma preferred with at least 1 year of involvement in NBDA at the local and/or national level; Connection with youth and college students and their experiences, Strong commitment to seeing the growth and development of the Black Deaf Community; excellent leadership, organizational, networking, and interpersonal skills are required; Knowledge and understanding of personal computers, social media, email, Microsoft Word
