Brian Lucas
"Shining Example of Success"

Brian Lucas

Born in Joliet, Illinois Brian Lucas learned from an early age how important it was to maximize his impact in the world by giving of his own talents and abilities as a way to help make a real and lasting difference.  In fact, this mindset was first instilled in him by his dad John E. Lucas Sr. and mom Bobbie N. Lucas., who taught him that every single thing and person matters.  Driven by his over-arching philosophy, which turned out to serve as the guiding principle that governed his life, Mr. Lucas has dedicated every waking day towards advancing that leadership-oriented way of thinking in everything he does.

In this day and age where so many of today’s youth do not complete a college degree, Mr. Lucas serves as a shining example of success by having completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Gallaudet University in Washington, DC, in May 2008.  Within record time, he has already begun to make his mark in the professional world, combining his passion for economic empowerment with his go-getter approach to galvanizing those around him.  Specifically, even at this stage in his career, Mr. Lucas already has made his mark by getting to work alongside some of the highest leaders in the Federal Government.  By joining forces with the Workforce Director of the United States Mint, he has provided key support to helping advance core initiatives such as The Learning Management System, Leadership Development Phases I II III, and Performance Work Plan implementation.  These efforts directly contribute to the smooth operations of his agency, including within the broader context of working in close conjunction with other components within the U.S. Department of the Treasury.  His efforts have also entailed being of substantial support to the Associate Director and the Chief Human Capital Officer to devise and enhance a leadership program, dedicated to putting into place concrete strategic solutions through the Change-Leadership Training Program, geared toward optimizing a workforce that embraces the assets of its employees and asserting the fundamental importance of every employee. All of this has resulted in members of the Federal workforce becoming better skilled and being better prepared to continue to meet the ever-changing challenges of the 21st Century.

Mr. Lucas, remembering the kind of support that has so generously been given to him by key mentors in his life, has appropriately and effectively seen fit to give back to the community by participating extensively as a lifetime coach in Keeping the Promise for Deaf Black Males (himself an alumnus of the program), addressing key issues such as racial equality, career-building strategies, and career advancement. Looking back, he was a student in Collegiate Black Deaf Student Leadership Institute (CSDBLI) program under Laurene Simms and Dorian Fletcher when National Black Deaf Advocate hosted conference in Orlando, Florida in summer 2005. All the leadership trainings provided, as a Workshop Presenter and Volunteer Coordinator, he led in organizing the 2009 National Training Conference of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing in Government (DHHIG), which effectively assembled more than 500 participants from all across the country to share information and ideas relating to successful, proven, and innovative career development strategies and to devise both individual approaches and collective strategies for continuing to advance real opportunities to be of greater service to the American People through faithful government service.  Not stopping there, Mr. Lucas is also Chairperson of the Redtape Membership Campaign whose goal is to tear down the remaining barriers to full employment of persons who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.  Examples of endeavors on other fronts include his tirelessly reaching out to and collaborating closely with California State University at Northridge, the Federal Disability Workforce Consortium, Rochester Institute Technology, and a whole host of Federal agencies including Department of Commerce, Kellogg Research Center, and Department of Transportation. He also continues to be a proud and energetic alumnus of Gallaudet University, regularly lending support to current students as new opportunities present themselves.  The interdisciplinary case studies of business major that have been developed about Mr. Lucas have been featured throughout the United States Mint, Keeping The Promise for Deaf Black Males, and Redtape Membership Campaign.

In his spare time, Mr. Lucas likes to socialize at Happy Hours, read inspirational books, and workout in weightlifting room. During his more relaxed moments, he may be found online, building social networks, staying in touch with friends near and far and inspiring people by his example.
