Betty Henderson, NBDA Appointed Board Member and Regional Treasurer, will serve as Interim National Treasurer, effective August 15, 2010. Gallaudet University's first WorldDeaf Cinema Festival to be held on campus on November 4-7, 2010. The event is a conference for scholars, students and filmmakers, a competition for talented deaf and hard of hearing film and video artists, For more information, click the PDF flyer.

Newly Elected Houston Black Deaf Advocates Chapter's Officers
Houston Black Deaf Advocates recently elected new officers. Shirley Allen (President), Thomas Winston (Vice President), Kathy Walters (Secretary), Regina Grant (Treasurer), and Margo Jarreau (Secretary Assistant & Membership Chairperson) will begin serving for the 2010-2012 term. White House Invited NBDA President to Commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act
NBDA President Ernest Garrett received an invitation from Mr. Kareem A. Dale - Associate Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement & Special Assistant to the President for Disability Policy - to attend the White House Commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act that took place on July 26, 2010. The photos and video of the Commemoration are available on the White House website.

Dr. Khadijat Rashid Appointed to White House Fellows 2010-2011
Dr. Khadijat Rashid, a member of the Gallaudet faculty and chair of the Department of Business, is among the 13 outstanding men and women appointed to serve as White House Fellows for the upcoming academic year - September 1-August 30. She is the first deaf person to be named a White House Fellow.

Curtis Pride Appointed to President's Council on Fitness, Sports, & Nutrition
Curtis Pride, who played 6 MLB teams from 1993 to 2006, was appointed to the President's Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition. He is the first deaf player in the modern era of Major League Baseball. In 2005, Curtis was featured on the NBDA's in the Spotlight - Hitting A Homerun: Curtis Pride.
